Additionally, 10 more households received building materials for self-repair of damages. Dozens of households received firewood for winter heating. Over 30 homes now have new front doors, replacing those damaged during the conflict. And that’s not all.
Besides housing restoration, our partners also provided assistance to the Starosaltivka Public Utility Vodokanal, speeding up the restoration of the water supply system.
A second phase of restoration is planned, with an agreement already in place. The knowledge our partners at arche noVa have shared with us over the past year will support this work. You can read about these training sessions on the "Training" page. -
2024 yearProject by the ast Europe Foundation “Changing Ourselves and Changing the World Around Us”
The project was implemented by the NGO "Good Deeds" as part of the "Phoenix" project, executed by the East Europe Foundation with the support of the European Union. As part of the project, our volunteer centre in Staryi Saltiv received new furniture and heating briquettes. This allowed us to conduct our activities, work, and welcome Saltivka residents even during winter.
We developed and launched our website, which we had dreamed of even before the war. The page you are currently browsing is the result of three months of work by five members of our NGO and a team of developers.
We collected and organised photo and video materials, compiled a complete list of organisations we have collaborated with, and calculated the amount of aid received and distributed to the residents of the Starosaltivka Territorial Community over the six years of the NGO "Good Deeds."
During five incredibly active days spent at a teambuilding event in Lviv, we gained skills in teamwork and communication both within and outside the team. We developed plans and strategies, striving to understand and articulate our purpose and aspirations.
One of the most important parts of the project was the development of policies that would enable us to move forward with the understanding that the organisation's processes are well-ordered, and that all members comprehend the structure, essence, principles, and logic of the workflows.
This extraordinarily important project provided the "Good Deeds" team with powerful growth opportunities, psychological support, and the strength to continue our work.

2022-2023 yearsAid from “For Peace”
For all of us, it is crucial not only to receive material assistance but also to know that we are not abandoned, that we have friends who care about us. Britta Ellwanger and Margret Ellwanger from the organisation “For Peace” have tirelessly supported our community for a long time.

These brave women visited the Starosaltivka Territorial Community twice to see firsthand what the residents needed most. We shared our pain with them—the destroyed bridge, the shelled school, our damaged kindergartens, and our ruined homes. The energetic “For Peace” team offered immediate assistance solutions directly in the field.
We also showcased the equipment we had already received or purchased with the funds from Britta Ellwanger and “For Peace”:
- Portable toilets for our modular town in Staryi Saltiv, ensuring that residents, builders, and volunteers have access to necessary, comfortable, and hygienic facilities;
- Fabric and new windows for the sewing workshop in Zarichne;
- Brush cutters and a shredder;
- Laptops and a printer (MFP) for the utility company "Vodokanal" and for our needs;
- A laptop, MFP, router, and modem for the "Kolosok" kindergarten in Vyshneve;
- Furniture and equipment for the school shelter from shelling in Staryi Saltiv;
- 250 metres of water supply pipes, 22 couplings, and 4 frequency converters for water wells.

2022 yearHumanitarian Aid for Saltiv Residents in Kharkiv
Since May 2022, due to the devastating shelling endured by Staryi Saltiv from the Russian fascist invaders, almost 99 percent of the village's population was evacuated. Most of them stayed in Kharkiv, while some relocated to safer regions.
Read more
Our fellow villagers, who evacuated urgently without belongings, were in dire need of assistance that the authorities could not provide at that time.
We managed to locate over 3,000 Saltivka residents and inhabitants of other affected villages in the Starosaltivka community. We assembled a team of like-minded volunteers and organised regular distributions of essential food items, hygiene products, diapers, clothing, and more.
At that time, we had no experience in such work, so we learned on the go. We sought donors, updated recipient lists, searched for fuel, transportation, and volunteers. We also began helping those who had moved further across Ukraine by sending aid via Nova Poshta. Within a year, the volume of aid distributed grew from a few bags of rice and peas, which we packed and handed out, to multi-ton truckloads.
In our incomplete list of activities during this period, we received, distributed, sorted, and compiled lists for humanitarian aid for the residents of the Starosaltivka Territorial Community from: the Red Cross, UNICEF, BF "Vostok SOS," BF "We Are Different – We Are Equal," Institute of Partnership and Sustainable Development, Rotary Club Kharkiv, Gift of the Givers, East-West Humanitarian Hub, FARMA MUNDI, NGO Gender Strategy and Budgeting Bureau, BF “DOLONKY-UA,” All-Ukrainian BF of Assistance and Development HELPGROUP, "DIYA Concerned Community" Hub, BF AVSI, NGO “Emmaus,” Direct Relief, NGO “Help Ukraine Romania,” Chernivtsi City BF "Mercy," NGO MOTOHUB Kharkiv, BF “Rays of Light and Hope,” and others.

2021 yearVisiting Santa Claus
We will remember this New Year celebration as the last one before the war.
Read more
The event was prepared through the joint efforts of the NGO "Good Deeds," the NGO "Unity," and the Starosaltivka Cultural Centre.
Together, we built Santa Claus’s house, which miraculously survived the Russian shelling, cooked field porridge, danced around with the children, and took memorable photos… Happy pre-war photos together.
The women from the neighbouring village Zarichne prepared a lively and cheerful performance for us. Our Chairwoman, Zoya Yurievna Khabarova, was outstanding in the role of Baba Yaga, while Nadiia Novytska, as the New Year tiger, and Oksana Sytnyk, who acted as the host, performed excellently! The treats provided by local entrepreneurs delighted both the children and the adults. And the real Santa Claus and Snow Maiden from the NGO “Yednist," who welcomed the children in their own house, promised us future happiness. And we believe it will be so!
