History of the NGO "GOOD ACTIONS"

"We were told, 'If you don't like it, do it better,' in response to our numerous complaints to the village council about everything—from the lack of youth programs, interesting cultural events, and environmental initiatives to sports grounds and household waste removal. The newly established Staryi Saltiv Territorial Community (TC) faced many issues.

'Maybe we should,' we decided. We are ordinary residents of Staryi Saltiv, a picturesque town on the shore of the Pechenihy Reservoir, known to Kharkiv residents as the Saltiv Sea. That's how it began—small children's parties, modest projects, gathering information, misunderstandings with the authorities unaccustomed to citizen activism.

Fortunately, around that time, the DOBRE program started working with our community, aimed at providing various forms of support to newly established communities during the decentralization process. Both officials, deputies, and bureaucrats learned alongside us.

There was also a program for the development of civic initiatives. Naturally, we seized this opportunity, and since 2018 we have been on a long journey that included dozens of training sessions and seminars. We were constantly learning because none of us had any prior experience. We officially registered our non-governmental organization, learned how to conduct meeting protocols and develop regulations. Now, all of this is routine, but at the time, it was a significant challenge.

Our first projects were focused on the cultural, tourist, and environmental issues of the Staryi Saltiv community. We developed tourist routes and excursions to showcase the historical sites and recreational areas in our scenic community.

One such event was the "Saltiv FEST" on Community Day, where visitors could learn about the unique aspects of each village in the Staryi Saltiv TC, taste local delicacies, and purchase crafts from local artisans. Under the "Clean Saltiv" project, waste sorting nets were installed in several villages, accompanied by an advocacy campaign promoting environmentally friendly consumption.

With the onset of the war, our focus shifted to providing the residents of the Staryi Saltiv TC with essential survival supplies, food, hygiene products, and building materials.

We continuously educate ourselves and organize training for the residents of Saltiv on topics like mine safety, psychological and first aid, entrepreneurship, and social media safety.

We believe that Ukraine will prevail and once again flourish as a European country. But to achieve this, all Ukrainians must do both great and small Good Actions."

Fundraising Basics for NGOs Training

Fundraising is a set of interconnected activities aimed at attracting various resources necessary for implementing a specific project or fulfilling an organisation's mission and achieving its goals. We conducted a monitoring session to identify what is needed for successful fundraising, including resources, intellectual assets, and internal investments. Discussions focused on finding the "launch button" (whether it be the government, businesses, citizens, or non-profit organisations) and the development of a strategic plan for our NGO for 2024, including the creation of a website.

The "Fundraising Basics for NGOs" training was attended by Anna Donska and Nadiya Novytska from the NGO "Good Actions." They learned about sourcing and securing various resources necessary to carry out our projects and achieve the mission and goals of "Good Actions."

The training was organised by our long-term partners, the NGO "Tenth of April," and took place in Kharkiv as part of the project "Protection of Internally Displaced Persons, Conflict-Affected Individuals, and Empowerment of Communities."

The speaker for the training, Oleg Vasylovych Kulynych, is a familiar face to us. We have been eagerly learning from his trainings and webinars since 2018 and hope to continue gaining valuable knowledge and practical experience from such professionals in the future.
